Behind the Scenes

Scenes

Every scene has to be filmed a certain way at a certain time. Each shot has to be specifically chosen to create engagement for the audience. While filming my short film, I chose specific styles and setting for my piece so I could really capture the story and feeling. Here are some of those scenes and an explanation to them.

Tavern Scene

For the tavern/bar scene, I wanted to film in a night time setting to really capture the tension and sneakiness. The shots that I wanted to use were first ones to establish the scene by showing a certain object and then showing more in the next shot, eventually leading to the reveal of 'Wolf' sitting down. I faded certain actions into different shots as well to give the scene variety and a better look at the different angles in the scene such as when it shows 'Wolf' having a drink from his cup, then shows 'Frost' sits down, and then the shot goes back onto 'Wolf' putting the cup down. The overall shots I wanted for this scene were mainly close up shots to make it feel like its a close environment and a sort of trying to lay low scene. This also provides variety throughout the film as it is an action/adventure/thriller film that has high energy at a lot of points and this spreads out that energy to a calm manner.

Grasslands

When filming in the grasslands, I wanted the scene to be a travelling scene showing the main character 'Frost' on his way to the cursed forest. Showing the adventurous terrain and world around him, I used mainly long shots in this scene because it shows the big open areas 'Frost' has to travel through. I also added music along with this scene which makes it very entertaining. A fun little effect that I played around with was with the soundtrack. It had different beats come in and I decided to match that with the footage so when the beat in the song would happen, the scene which switch to the next shot on that beat. I also used a drone shot to create an establishing scene of the cursed forest and terrain around it. This was a powerful shot as it rises up high into the sky and looks over all the trees and environment.
